In 1912, at the age of 22, George R. Dunn borrowed money from his father, a harness maker, and began a furniture store. The business was located in a building erected in 1867 adjacent to the Erie Canal at One Main Street in the canal town of Brockport, New York. The business prospered and grew. In 1943 George moved to a larger space, south of the original, 15 Main Street, the current home of the Tri-County Advertiser.
Dunn's sold a full-line of home merchandise from linoleum to pots and pans, and of course, furniture. In 1950, at the age of 25, George T. Dunn joined his father George R. at Dunn's.
