Rust & Root Furniture
Rust & Root Furniture shapes beautiful pieces of local Hawaiian hardwoods using modern design and unique style. We strive to create beautiful custom furniture, and we stand behind our craftsmanship. Clients come to Rust & Root for a special piece of furniture with great attention to detail. Good quality work is important and creates the foundation of each piece.

Equally important is good design. Our furniture strives to combine solid craftsmanship with quality design. Please take a look through the portfolio, organized by piece in the menu. Homeowners remove trees for new development, growing too close to a home or trees that have fallen from a storm (although the latter is rare). If these logs were not milled up into slabs, they would be put through the wood chipper or dumped to decay naturally.

We're also very lucky here in Hawaii that the urban reclaimed lumber is absolutely gorgeous. Our favorites are monkeypod (most commonly requested), mango and koa. Many other less common local species that also make amazing furniture include kamani, false kamani, Cuban mahogany and Norfolk pine.

Rust & Root Furniture combines Hawaiian hardwoods with contemporary design.
You can become one of our clients for custom work, or come select a piece from our showroom.
We strive to use mainly sustainably sourced local hardwoods for our furniture.
The local woods that we use are all harvested from fallen trees on the islands of Hawaii.
Rust & Root is a custom furniture workroom capable of creating almost any design.
From sawmills all across Oahu, we handpick lumber from an extensive selection of stunning Hawaiian woods, all sustainably sourced.
Woods include monkeypod, milo, koa, eucalyptus, mango and many more.
We also source woods from the mainland US and around the world.
Monkeypod -- Monkeypod is a large shade tree that grows all over Oahu.
It's domed canopy is as distinctive as its beautiful grain, known for the darker heartwood and golden blonde sapwood along the edges.
Rust & Root is a full service custom workroom.
Lead time for large tables is sixteen weeks.
Some large slab tables may require longer lead times for material sourcing.
Below, you'll find a gallery of past larger scale tables which include dining tables, conference/boardroom tables, countertops, bar tops and shelving.
Measuring ~45"x78", this table is perfect for six people!
It is made of two boards from the same log, glued together in a mirror image called a "bookmatch."
These slabs had a strange cutout on one of their ends.
Solid wood islands are a great way to increase counter space in a kitchen.
Wood is a good alternative to stone or synthetic countertops, and a wooden countertop can last forever.
Local hardwoods also bring warmth and depth into the kitchen, and can be made to either match or contrast with the rest of the cabinetry.
We can custom build kitchen islands of any size, and include any necessary storage solutions.
This is the largest conference table that Rust & Root has built to date, and the longest conference table in Hawaii.
Very clean and slightly midcentury, this 16'x4' conference table changed the whole room as soon as it was delivered.
Teak veneer for this top was specially selected for a high amount of figure, and the two halves match perfectly.
Where two pieces come together is always an opportunity to show quality.
This table is assembled on site from its two halves, so getting the center joint right is incredibly important.
