From a simple table lamp to a complex media center, no detail is neglected, no choice made lightly. A broad palette combines respect for classic furniture forms with inventive solutions to design problems. I have over 30 years' experience in the San Francisco Bay area, designing and building fine furniture, accessories, and art pieces.

I take pieces from concept to completion for private clients, and I welcome the opportunity to work with designers and architects seeking superior quality for their designs and their clients. We offer consultation on materials, hardware and fabrication techniques, and can provide mock-ups, prototypes and other tools to help you realize your ideas. We're conversant in a wide range of techniques, from veneering with the latest vacuum technology to the carving of a Queen Anne ball-and-claw foot.

Materials are carefully selected and combined to enhance form; veneers are laid up to establish a rhythm that emphasizes the proportions of each piece. Every choice is made with an eye to the harmony of the whole.
Services
Surfaces and containers; all furniture belongs to one or another classification (or both, like the desk.)
Tables occupy the first category, of course: they support.
They provide places for offerings and gatherings, for display or convenience; to hold a party, or a lamp, or a glass or a book.
Tables, in their limitless variety of style and purpose.
Of all your furniture, the cabinet is the piece you interact with most directly.
It's designed to hold your stuff.
Its purpose requires that you touch it, manipulate it.
Thus it affords you various satisfactions: the tactile, in a carefully-worked edge or surface, or the silky action of a drawer, riding on wooden slides.
That of function, fulfilled: the weightless swing of a well-fitted door, and the quiet coda of its latching.
The not-inconsiderable satisfaction of the ship-shape.
The dining table deserves its own section.
No other piece of furniture in our lives is so freighted, so weighted with associations.
It, or its homely counterpart the kitchen table: an open place, an agora, around which we play out our lives, play Monopoly.
Wake your brother.
Do your homework.
Emulate Fezziwig, furnishing forth.
Put in all the leaves.
They are built to serve generations; I like to think that children who sit at these tables will seat their own children at them someday.
These pieces are for fun- as if I wasn't already having fun.
You will notice that they largely have a theatrical connection.
Nutcrackers are toys with a theatrical character; the animation built into them lets them "act."
I want to build more: Falstaff, Pierrot, Rigoletto, Richard III; Bette Davis in All About Eve.
The little theatres have their germ in a beloved toy of my and my brother's childhood.
We could "cram/ Within this wooden O"- actually, lithographed sheet metal- stories we acted out through the little plastic figures that came with the theatre.
It is the long history of humankind those who learned to collaborate and improvise most effectively have prevailed.
Although most of my work is built to my own designs, I welcome the opportunity to collaborate with, and learn from, design professionals looking for meticulous workmanship and sound counsel.
It's deeply satisfying to me to find ways to realize someone else's idea: a choice of material, an engineering solution, or a suggestion to improve use, as with the lion cabinets shown.
In the original design, the cabinets' sides continued all the way to the top, into which a small halogen spot was to be fitted.
