Garth Jones began his professional life with a PhD in Organic Chemistry followed by seven years in academic biomedical research. Along the way he honed his furniture designing and building skills in Reed Woodworks' shop. Needing a change, he left the academic world and Jones Furniture Designs was born. A few years later he apprenticed for six months at LeFort Furniture Makers south of Boston and studied the design and construction of 18th century American furniture.
Along with Don Reed, Jones is the owner of the Slaughterhouse Gallery & Studios. He is an active member of the Associated Artists of Pittsburgh, and his work has been featured in several exhibitions. In 2011 he had a turned piece accepted into the prestigious 'Art of the State' show at the State Museum of Pennsylvania. Jones Furniture Designs builds each of our outstanding pieces out of the finest hardwoods using the best of traditional joinery and modern finishes.
We expect our furniture to look great and function well for generations.

Services
Many older homes feature complex turned balusters and porch posts.
Most were meant to be painted but some are clear finished oak or mahogany.
When these houses were new there were many small shops that produced these turnings.
These shops are all gone now, and the profiles they made are not available from normal commercial sources.
We custom design or recreate legacy designs for stair balusters, porch posts, and other profile turnings.
Each one is turned by eye, and we can match most any profile.

Over the years Jones Furniture Designs has produced a number of custom chairs, couches, and benches.
A dining or coffee table can define the character of a room.
Much of our work has been in this area and spans the range from a full sized dining room table that can seat ten to a small lighted table designed to hold a single piece of art glass.
This bed showcases the strong Asian influence in our designs.
A large table may dominate a room, but no less important is the sideboard against the wall.
