I operate a small woodworking shop in Putney, Vermont and have been designing and building handmade furniture one piece at a time since 1982. Over the years I have developed a line of Shaker furniture, Mission furniture and Windsor chairs. In addition to my line of Shaker and Mission furniture I also do a considerable amount of custom furniture and built-ins ranging from minor customization of standard pieces to designing and building completely new designs.

I hope you will take the time to explore my web site and feel free to contact me if you have any questions or comments. Also, the next time you're in Vermont please stop in and visit my workshop and showroom. I put a great deal of thought into my furniture to make sure that each piece is intelligently designed to fullfil it's function, is well proportioned with simple, clean, crisp details and is constructed with the best materials and joinery.

While doing all of this I also keep in mind that most people don't have an unlimited budget for furniture.
Services
Your bed is one of the most important purchases you can make.
You'll spend more time using it than anything else you'll ever buy.
For this reason all of my beds are handmade to order and have the following features that ensure they will last for a lifetime of daily use.
100% solid hardwood construction.
For example, cherry means solid cherry not cherry veneer on particleboard or a "cherry finish" on a cheaper wood.
Special bolts that are not visible from the outside of the bed rails or posts hold the mortise and tenon joints together securely yet permit easy disassembly for shipping and moving.
The delicately tapered octagonal posts of my pencil post bed are capped with finials (as shown).
An optional 4 or 6 piece canopy frame with or without finials is also available.
When you order your pencil post bed we'll ask for the thickness of your mattress and boxspring so we can adjust the height of the headboard accordingly.
Sturdy angle iron brackets support your boxspring and mattress and knock down mortise and tenon joinery permits complete disassembly for UPS shipping.
If you'll be using your pencil post bed with just a mattress or futon we will build the bed with a maple slat platform which provides excellent support while still allowing your mattress to breath.
My newest four poster bed design is inspired by the architectural and furniture designs of Charles and Henry Greene who were among the leaders of the Arts and Crafts movement of the early 20th century.
This design is particular well suited for highlighting unique boards by framing them with contrasting woods in the headboard and footboard.
When you order your bed we'll ask for the thickness of your mattress and boxspring so we can adjust the height of the headboard accordingly.
Sturdy angle iron brackets support your boxspring and mattress and knock down mortise and tenon joinery permits complete disassembly for UPS shipping.
Built from solid cherry, maple or oak my Shaker platform bed was originally designed for use with a futon (as shown) but can be made to accept a standard mattress or mattress and boxspring set.
Maple slats fit into individual notches in the ledger strips inside each side rail to provide a strong platform that will still allow your mattress or futon to breath.
Beds intended for use with a boxsping and mattress set are supplied with angle iron brackets on the side and end rails.
All king size platform beds also have a fifth leg in the center of the bed to provide additional support.
Inspired by the Shakers' rope beds, this bed is also available with a low footboard.
While originally designed for use with a standard mattress, this bed can be modified to take a futon or boxspring and mattress set.
When you order your bed we'll ask for the thickness of your mattress or mattress and boxspring and adjust the bed accordingly.
Please call or email for a shipping quote outside of this area or for a blanket wrapped delivery quote.
Bed Overall Height: Overall bed height will depend on the thickness of your mattress (or mattress & boxspring).
